Univision anchor Jorge Ramos is an enabler for illegal aliens who come to the United States and commit crimes, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly charged during a raucous debate on Wednesday night’s The O’Reilly Factor.
Ramos, who gained fame by confronting Donald Trump at a media event last month, and O’Reilly were sparring over Ramos’ public stands supporting illegal immigrants when the fireworks began.
“Now, we want Kate’s Law, which would say, if an aggravated felon — someone convicted of an aggravated felony in the United States is deported and comes back, mandatory five year prison, can get more, all right, in a federal penitentiary. You support that?” O’Reilly asked, citing a law named after Kate Steinle of San Francisco, who was shot dead by an illegal alien who had been deported multiple times.
Ramos indicated he did not.
“It’s outrageous!” O’Reilly called out. “It’s outrageous!”
Ramos claimed he was not out to defend criminals. O’Reilly was having none of it.
“You are! You’re an enabler! Jorge, you’re enabling that guy, Sanchez!” O’Reilly erupted, referring to Francisco Sanchez, Kate Steinle’s accused killer.
“You not supporting Kate’s law means that you don’t care!” O’Reilly added.
The conflict between the two grew as they debated whether Ramos was a journalist or an activist.
Ramos has repeatedly defended his actins as legitimate journalism.
“You’re an anchorman,” O’Reilly replied. “How can you possibly cover illegal immigration fairly when you are an activist — you’re a proponent of allowing them amnesty? How can you possibly cover the story? You should excuse yourself from it or recuse yourself from it. Or become like me, a commentator,” O’Reilly suggested.
“I’m just a reporter,” Ramos countered.
“You’re not!” O’Reilly responded. “You’re an activist!”
