On Tuesday, Senate Democrats effectively blocked Kate’s Law from advancing.

The law was named for Kate Steinle, who was murdered in San Francisco in July. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a Mexican national and convicted felon who was in the United States illegally, has been charged with her death.

“There comes a point where the American people are going to have to take back their government,” O’Reilly said Tuesday night. “When a 32-year-old woman can be gunned down by an illegal felon who had been deported five times, and you can’t get a strict law punishing illegal alien felons passed. When that happens, you don’t have a functioning government.”

Kate’s Law would impose a five-year sentence on an illegal immigrant convicted of an aggravated felony who returns to the U.S. following deportation. The bill was attached to legislation removing funding from ‘sanctuary cities’ that harbor illegal immigrants and will not cooperate with federal authorities.

“Unbelievable is too gentle a word,” O’Reilly said in assessing liberal opposition to the law.

O’Reilly disparaged members of both parties for political maneuvering the led to the vote blocking Kate’s Law from advancing.

“That’s what makes Americans furious with the political system in Washington,” he said, pointing to the success of outsiders Donald Trump and Ben Carson in the Republican presidential race.

In response to an attempt by Sen. Harry Reid to claim that immigration reform was needed instead of Kate’s Law, O’Reilly lashed out at Reid.

“The truth is politicians are playing games with your safety….Senator Reid, the poster boy for anarchy, could not care less about the death of Kate Steinle,” O’Reilly said. “All he cares about is complete amnesty for undocumented immigrants.”

O’Reilly said that despite the Senate’s action, he will not give up.

“We will confront the villains no matter which party harbors them,” he said in closing.
